RECOMMENDATION LETTER

WHAT IS RECOMMENDATION LETTER?

Recommendation letters are often used by Prospective undergraduate students during college admissions. Some graduate schools require students to have at least two letters of recommendation during admissions. The letter demonstrates the applicant's motivation and self-discipline.

Many college and scholarship applications require recommendation letters. Some specify the recommenders—teachers, employers, or personal acquaintances; others simply indicate the number of Choose recommenders who will write specific statements about you—not remarks that could apply to any student. General comments reflect little about you and do not help you stand out among the applicants recommendations required. Selection committees want to know as much as possible about you.

Provide relevant information so the letter of recommendation will be specifically about you and your qualifications. Indicate the purpose of the recommendation letter. If it is to accompany your college application, provide the college's name and background information so the recommender can discuss how you are an appropriate candidate. If it is for a scholarship, provide a copy of the application or a description of the scholarship and the sponsoring organization's mission. Supply a copy of your résumé listing your GPA, activities, leadership roles, awards, employment experience, and special skills.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION 1

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for V.Sashidar as he has an indisputable potential and motivation for graduate studies. I have known him since 2006.

I was associated with Sashidar in the fifth and sixth semesters for Electromagnetic Fields, VLSI Design and VHDL laboratory. During his coursework in Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, I had the opportunity to closely interact with him in the two semesters that I have taught him. This has convinced me that he is very genuine in pursuit of his academic excellence. His lab-work was disciplined and creditable.

Furthermore, Sashidar is very good at working with other people. He is exceptionally nice, considerate and sensitive. Sashidar is not only good humored and friendly, but also diligent in his work. He is self motivated and is currently working on his project using VHDL and MATLAB.

Sashidar is a student of high moral and ethical standards. I am sure he will put forth all his effort into any task that he confronts. By providing a graduate program in your college you will not only give him an opportunity for career growth but also help his achievements to culminate. I strongly recommend him for graduate studies and deserving financial assistance

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION 2

It gives me immense pleasure in recommending Mr. Harish Pelluru for the graduate study at your college in the field of MBA. I have known him for around 2 years since he joined our company. During that period I have observed him grow into a poised and accomplished young man. He is an exceptional team worker with good appraisals resulting from diligent work habits.

He can be rated to be one of the best amongst his batch on the current project. Right from the requirements identification phase, he was extremely passionate about the project and came up with different ideas before zeroing on one particular solution. One important quality which I have observed in him is that he does not hesitate to discuss issues he faces and only proceeds further when he gets a promising solution to his issues than putting up with some easy workarounds.

Deservingly, he has received many awards on account of his performance during the critical phases of the previous project. Along with his all round performance academically, he has energetically participated in various activities of the team. He was particularly active in managing the Knowledge Transfer sessions and in conducting various IQ building sessions.

I believe that Mr Harish Pelluru has tremendous potential to be a leader in the future and I am confident that he would be an asset to both student life and academics at any of the top universities. I strongly recommend him for the MBA at your university. If you have any questions about him, please feel free to contact me.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION 3

I am writing to you in support of Srikumaran Ravindran who is applying to your institution for MS program. Though many students ask me to write a letter of recommendation on their behalf to pursue graduate studies I extend such favor only to a pool of deserving candidates. Srikumaran is one of those students and therefore, I highly recommend that he be given the opportunity to attend your university.

I taught Srikumaran Heat and Mass Transfer, Engineering Materials and Metallurgy courses during the second year of his undergraduate program. Srikumaran is a quick learner and brings a fresh perspective to class discussions. He showed good understanding of the subject materials covered in class by asking thought provoking questions and exhibited a keen interest in learning new things. Srikumaran has presented a paper on the topic “Robots and its application in medicine” in Forge, a national level technical symposium held at Arunai Engineering College in 2008. The work clearly showed his ability to deliver a clear, concise and well-thought out presentation and offered a new perspective on the application and the future prospects of robots in the field of medicine.

In this Information age where computer literacy is crucial to be successful, Srikumaran has excellent computer skills. He is proficient in C, C++, UNIX, SQL and design and analysis tools such as CADian Mech, Pro/E and ANSYS. Srikumaran scored in the top 5% of the class in the computer aided analysis and simulation lab course. His performance in the final exam, class assignments, quizzes and final project helped him earn this distinction.

Srikumaran has completed internship at Nishan-Kishan mills, Neyveli, India and at Ooty Tea Estate, Ooty, India. These internships have helped him garner knowledge about manufacturing techniques and quality control processes employed in an industrial setting. Srikumaran has shown avid interest in activities outside of academics. He has served in various community organizations and has encouraged other students to participate as well. His spirit of social responsibility sets him apart from many of his peers. Srikumaran continues to impress me with his knowledge, skill and dedication to his work. I am positive that you will find in him a student whose talents will shine further through your graduate program. It is my hope that you will offer him admission to your university. Please feel free to contact me if you require additional information.

I currently serve in the capacity of Professor and Head of the mechanical engineering department at Arunai Engineering College. I take great pleasure in writing this letter of recommendation for my student Mr. R. Srikumaran who belonged to the class of 2009.

I have known Mr. Srikumaran for the last two years of his study at Arunai Engineering and I taught him the following courses - Manufacturing Technology and Non Destructive Testing. Srikumaran performed exceptionally well in both the courses and was one among the top scorers in his class. He had shown great promise by being knowledgeable not only about the subject material covered in class but by routinely bringing up advanced topics for discussion.

Srikumaran exhibits a high degree of initiative in continuously striving to update his knowledge by perusing the latest updates in journals and research publications. He is extremely well mannered with his teachers as well as with his classmates. He has presented a technical paper on ‘Alternative Fuels’ at Constellation, a national level technical symposium held at S.K.P engineering college in 2008.

Srikumaran served as the treasurer during the years 2007-2009 for Forge, a national level technical symposium organized by the department of mechanical engineering and was instrumental in making the event a great success. Srikumaran has interned at Nishan -Kishan spinning mills, Neyveli, India in 2008 to fortify his academic knowledge with practical skills. Srikumaran also takes a very active role in extra-curricular and volunteer opportunities. He holds membership in several organizations such as the Green Soldier Club, an environment preservation group, the National Service Scheme, a community service organization and Interact club, an organization that promotes international understanding and goodwill. Being part of these organizations has made him a well rounded individual with a social conscience.

Being a witness to this kind of dedication I undoubtedly rate his capabilities as promising. I wish him all the very best in his future endeavors and strongly recommend him for admission at your university and also for extension of financial assistance.
